   Proposal Description:
   The purpose of this analysis is to investigate inconsistencies between clinical and neuropathological diagnosis. We hypothesize that most of these discrepancies arise from deficiencies in the rules originally devised for assigning the NIA-Reagan stages. There were no rules given for interpolation of in-between cases so there is naturally going to be a lot of variation on how individual centers handle that. High NIA-Reagan is supposed to be frequent CERAD neuritic plaque density with Braak stage V or VI, intermediate is moderate plaque density with Braak stage III or IV and low is sparse plaque density with Braak stage I or II. However, there are no rules for the combination of moderate plaque density with Braak stage V or VI, or frequent plaque density with Braak stage III or IV, etc, etc.
